Plejd has become Sweden's most popular smart lighting system, and it's not hard to see why. It works just like normal with your existing light switches, but at the same time gives you full control via your mobile phone. But which products do you actually need? Here's the guide to help you choose correctly.
1. The Fundamentals: The pucks behind the switch
The most common way to start is with a "puck" installed behind your regular light switch.
-
DIM-01 (Dimmer): Your best friend for ceiling lamps and spotlights. Allows you to dim even if you don't have a smart bulb.
-
DIM-02 (Crown dimmer): Perfect if you have a light switch with two buttons (crown) and want to control two different lamps independently from the same flush box.
-
CTR-01 (Controller): This is often used for loads that should not be dimmed, such as engine heaters or powerful outdoor lighting. It can handle higher loads than dimmers.
-
REL-02 (Relay): Used when you only want an on/off function for two separate lamps.
2. The accessories that make smart "smart"
Once the pucks are in place, you can add these to get the most out of the system:
-
Gateway (GWY-01): The bridge that connects your system to the internet. Without this, Plejd only works when you are at home. With the Gateway, you can control the lights from your vacation and connect the system with Google Home or Apple HomeKit.
-
Rotary knob (RTR-01): For those who miss the feel of a classic dimmer knob. This communicates wirelessly with your pucks.
-
Smart Plug (SPR-01): The easiest way to integrate a window lamp or coffee maker into the system. Just plug it in!
3. Think like this: "What do I want to achieve?"
| Desire | What you need |
| "I want the lights to turn on when the sun sets" | Any Plejd puck (all have a built-in astronomical clock!). |
| "I want to be able to turn everything off with a switch by the door" | Install pucks on your lights and program one of your existing buttons as a "scenario button". |
| "I want to control the lights with my voice" | You need a Gateway and a voice assistant (e.g., Google Nest). |
| "I want to control the outdoor lighting but have no cable connection" | Use a wireless push button that you can screw on anywhere. |
Pro-tip: Mesh technology
The great thing about Plejd is that the products communicate with each other in a "mesh network." This means that every new product you add extends the range of the entire system. Do you have poor coverage to the garage? Put a Smart Plug in the hallway and it will forward the signal!
Remember: Installation of Plejd pucks (except Smart Plug) must always be performed by an authorized electrician.
